RBNZ rate decisions on NZDUSD: all 8 small_miss (dovish surprises) sent NZDUSD DOWN at 1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, AND 4h — SEXTUPLE-window miss unanimity across the RBNZ family's largest small_miss sample (n=8, up from BoC's n=3 and RBA's n=9 pattern). Small_beat (n=3) holds 3/3 UP at 1m/5m/15m — DOUBLE-tail unanimity at three contiguous windows — then softens by ONE print (2022-04-13, a shallow +7.8p) at 30m/1h/4h. Fisher's exact 15m one-sided p = 1/C(11,3) = 1/165 = 0.00606, 5.3x tighter than the BoC × CAD-cross arc's 1/35. First leg of a fresh RBNZ × NZD-cross news-impact family arc.
121 non-contaminated RBNZ Official Cash Rate decisions on NZDUSD — the world-reserve canonical NZD-cross opener of a fresh RBNZ × NZD-cross news-impact family arc. At 1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, AND 4h — all six contiguous windows — small_miss (n=8, dovish surprises) goes 0/8 UP. SEXTUPLE-window miss unanimity, with 4h magnitude -56.80p the DEEPEST reading of the six (1.21x 15m). small_beat (n=3, hawkish surprises) holds 3/3 UPat 1m/5m/15m — TRIPLE beat unanimity — then softens to 2/3 at 30m+ because of ONE shallow +7.8p print (2022-04-13, priced-in 50bp hike). Fisher’s exact test (Stats #45) on the 15m 2x2 [[0,8],[3,0]] gives one-sided p = 1/165 = 0.00606 — 5.3x tighter than the BoC × CAD-cross arc’s 1/35 because RBNZ has 11 non-in-line prints vs BoC’s 7.

Six-window walk — sextuple miss + triple beat unanimity
| Window | small_miss (n=8) | small_beat (n=3) | Tail unanimity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1m | 0/8 (0.0%) -54.25p | 3/3 (100.0%) +35.20p | double |
| 5m | 0/8 (0.0%) -51.00p | 3/3 (100.0%) +46.70p | double |
| 15m | 0/8 (0.0%) -47.10p | 3/3 (100.0%) +53.10p | double ★ |
| 30m | 0/8 (0.0%) -42.85p | 2/3 (66.7%) +58.10p | miss-only |
| 1h | 0/8 (0.0%) -44.70p | 2/3 (66.7%) +48.10p | miss-only |
| 4h | 0/8 (0.0%) -56.80p | 2/3 (66.7%) +40.80p | miss-only (DEEPEST 4h miss) |
Miss side holds 0/8 UP at EVERY one of six windows — sextuple unanimity. The 4h reading -56.80p is the DEEPEST of the six (1.21x 15m). Beat side unanimity holds at 1m/5m/15m then softens at 30m onward because of one shallow print: on 2022-04-13 the RBNZ hiked 50bp when consensus priced 25bp, but NZDUSD only moved +7.8p at 15m (well below the +53.10p bucket median) as the global-USD DXY bid (Fed 50bp priced for May 2022) dominated. By 30m that print flipped negative and stays flipped through 4h.
Why 2022-04-13 breaks the beat side at 30m+
2022-04-13 RBNZ 50bp hike: markets had priced ~40% chance of 50bp already through the strong March 2022 CPI print, so the actual 50bp was “expected surprise.” NZDUSD moved +7.8p at 15m — 15% of the +53.10p bucket median. By 30m the initial NZD-firm reprice faded as the global-USD DXY bid dominated. The other two beat prints held clean at every window: 2019-11-13 no-cut surprise HOLD (+76.5p at 15m, the deepest beat print) and 2023-04-05 50bp inflation-panic hike (+53.1p at 15m, matches bucket median). This is a print-level regime-shift effect, not a family beat-side weakness.
RBNZ × NZDUSD vs the BoC × USDCAD counterpart
| Feature | BoC × USDCAD (2026-09-23) | RBNZ × NZDUSD (today) |
|---|---|---|
| Non-in-line prints | n_miss=3, n_beat=4 (total 7) | n_miss=8, n_beat=3 (total 11) |
| Sample tilt | beat-tilted (4/7 hawkish) | miss-tilted (8/11 dovish) |
| Fisher exact 15m 1-sided p | 1/20 = 0.05 (data gap caveat) | 1/165 = 0.00606 |
| Miss-side unanimity | 4/4 at 1m/5m/15m/30m; softens 1h-EOD | 6/6 at 1m/5m/15m/30m/1h/4h (SEXTUPLE) |
| Beat-side unanimity | 0/4 UP through 5D (OCTUPLE) | 3/3 UP at 1m/5m/15m (TRIPLE) |
| 4h miss magnitude | +146.9p (large USD absorption) | -56.80p (deep NZD absorption) |
RBNZ’s 11 non-in-line prints give a Fisher p that is 5.3x tighter than BoC’s 7-print family, and the miss-side unanimity extends TWO windows further (4h instead of 30m). This is the tightest Fisher p on any world-reserve rate-decision NZ/CA cross in the Insights corpus so far.

All numbers verified against live /api/v1/news-impact/stats on 2026-09-25 across 1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h. All 11 miss+beat print dates cross-verified via /api/v1/news-impact/releases?limit=500(the default limit=60 truncates to 5 miss + 3 beat because the endpoint returns newest-first).
