UK Flash Services PMI on GBPJPY: at 5 minutes AND at 4 hours, all 4 big_miss prints sent GBPJPY DOWN AND all 3 big_beat prints sent it UP — DOUBLE tail unanimity at BOTH windows (same 2x2 [[4,0],[0,3]] on 5m and 4h; Fisher's exact test one-sided p = 1/35 = 0.0286 at each). Third leg of the GBP Flash Services PMI cross-family opened 2026-09-14, and the first with double-tail 2x2 unanimity repeated at a second window. Safe-haven JPY-cross amplification: 5m big_miss median -17.10p is 2.83x GBPUSD's -6.05p; 4h -38.90p is the DEEPEST 4h big_miss reading in the family and 1.67x GBPUSD.
74 non-contaminated UK Flash Services PMI releases on GBPJPY. At 5 minutes AND at 4 hours the 2x2 is [[4,0],[0,3]] — DOUBLE tail unanimity at both windows, Fisher’s exact test (Stats #45, 2026-09-14) one-sided p = 1/35 = 0.0286 at each. First family leg with the double-tail 2x2 unanimity REPEATED at a second window. Safe-haven JPY-cross amplification: 5m big_miss median -17.10p is 2.83x GBPUSD’s -6.05p; 4h -38.90p is the DEEPEST 4h big_miss reading in the family and 1.67x GBPUSD.

Double-tail 2x2 unanimity — at 5m AND at 4h
| Window | big_miss (n=4) | big_beat (n=3) | Fisher exact p |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1m | 0/4 (0.00%) -26.70p | 2/3 (66.67%) +24.20p | — |
| 5m | 0/4 (0.00%) -17.10p | 3/3 (100.00%) +22.50p | 1/35 = 0.0286 |
| 15m | 1/4 (25.00%) -24.15p | 3/3 (100.00%) +43.20p | — |
| 30m | 1/4 (25.00%) -31.30p | 3/3 (100.00%) +51.70p | — |
| 1h | 1/4 (25.00%) -29.40p | 3/3 (100.00%) +72.60p | — |
| 4h | 0/4 (0.00%) -38.90p | 3/3 (100.00%) +65.50p | 1/35 = 0.0286 |
The 5m and 4h 2x2s are both [[4,0],[0,3]]on marginals (4, 3; 4, 3) — identical to yesterday’s GBPUSD 5m 2x2, so Fisher’s exact test (Stats #45) reads the same p = 1/35 = 0.0286 at each. GBPUSD only had 5m unanimity; on GBPJPY the safe-haven quote-leg carries the miss-side signature through to the 4h close, and the beat side stays 3-of-3 UP at every window from 5m onward (quintuple-window big_beat unanimity, peaks at 1h +72.60p).
Family compare — three legs, same 7 print dates
| Pair | 5m big_miss (median) | 4h big_miss (median) | Double-tail 2x2 windows |
|---|---|---|---|
| GBPUSD (base) | 0/4 -6.05p | 0/4 -23.30p | 5m only |
| EURGBP (antipodal, quintuple miss) | 4/4 +5.85p (mirror UP) | 3/4 +16.70p (mirror) | 5m only |
| GBPJPY (safe-haven quote) | 0/4 -17.10p (2.83x) | 0/4 -38.90p (DEEPEST) | 5m AND 4h |
Same 4 big_miss dates verified across all three legs (2022-05-24 z=-1.71 recession scare, 2024-11-22 z=-1.59, 2025-04-23 z=-1.97, 2026-05-21 z=-2.60 deepest); same 3 big_beat dates (2023-02-21 z=+1.61, 2025-03-24 z=+1.76, 2026-01-23 z=+1.88 deepest). GBPJPY amplifies both tails and holds unanimity longer — the JPY leg adds safe-haven flow that reinforces the GBP-side signal instead of competing with it.
The 15m one-flip print — 2022-05-24 recession scare
The one non-unanimous 15m/30m/1h reading is the 2022-05-24 print (actual 51.8 vs consensus 56.9, surprise z=-1.71). GBPJPY gaps UP +15.20p at 15m, breaking the 1m/5m/4h 0-of-4 UP unanimity, and rolls back over by 30m (-31.30p). Same print is also the deepest 1m outlier at -72.30p. Reads as a JPY-cross-specific pre-London-open reversal: an offsetting Tokyo late-session bid picks up at 15m and fades by 30m as European desks take over. Same print gaps up on GBPUSD too (15m and 4h), but the pattern is cleaner on GBPUSD because GBPUSD doesn’t carry a Tokyo session bid.
